Sonam Sherpa Crowned 2024 UAE AeroPress Champion
The 2024 UAE AeroPress Championship, organized by Mokha 1450 and hosted by DMCC Coffee Centre and DMCC Gaming Centre, concluded with Sonam Sherpa of Karanti Coffee emerging as the champion. This event, which witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 400 coffee enthusiasts, was a testament to the vibrant coffee culture in the UAE.

Held over three days, the competition was marked by high spirits and fierce competition. Participants from across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah showcased their brewing skills using Yemeni coffee from the Talooq Women’s Association in Taiz Governorate. This choice added a historical and cultural layer to the event, celebrating Yemen’s rich coffee heritage.
Under the theme “Pressing Boundaries,” the championship emphasized innovation and excellence in coffee brewing. Mokha 1450, in collaboration with the DMCC Coffee Centre, ensured that the event stood out with creative and innovative brewing methods, making it a unique experience for all involved.
The excitement now shifts to Lisbon, where Sonam Sherpa will represent the UAE at the World AeroPress Championship from September 19-21. This international event, featuring over 120 regional and national competitions from more than 60 countries, is a significant milestone for any coffee aficionado.
The championship provided a rich experience for coffee lovers, offering them a chance to taste some of the best specialty coffees from local brands. Attendees could win exclusive AeroPress products and other prizes, making the event accessible and enjoyable for all.
The AeroPress, known for its innovative brewing technique combining infusion and pressure, allows baristas to experiment with different methods to extract the best flavors. This competition, supported by gold sponsors Slayer, Coffee Desk, TSAK Trading Company, and Coffee Market Innovations, along with other sponsors, highlighted the device’s versatility and the baristas’ creativity.
