Sebsib Abafira, President of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), stated that Ethiopia’s coffee exports are experiencing significant growth in global markets due to the substantial attention the government has given to the sector.
These remarks were made during the launch of Yoya Coffee, a leading Ethiopian brand dedicated to producing, processing, roasting coffee, and training professionals in the field, as it opened its new coffee outlet.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Sebsib Abafira emphasized that such entrepreneurial initiatives in the coffee sector encourage the enhancement of quality and value addition.
He noted that the prices and appeal of Ethiopian coffee exports are currently seeing a significant increase in global markets. He also pointed out that Ethiopian coffee exports achieved record revenues in the last Ethiopian fiscal year, generating $908 million in the past six months.
Sebsib highlighted that the government’s focus on the coffee sector has been a key factor in boosting Ethiopia’s coffee exports. However, he stressed the need for all stakeholders to intensify efforts to increase the productivity of the country’s coffee.
For his part, Dawit Tesfaye, owner and manager of Yoya Coffee Roaster, said that recent macroeconomic reforms have particularly motivated coffee exporters and generally strengthened the sector. He added that Yoya Coffee is working to promote Ethiopian coffee in global markets and contribute to the growth of this sector, which is one of the country’s major sources of export revenue.
