The International Coffee Organization Announces Search for a Professional Officer in Sustainability and Partnerships

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) is pleased to announce the opening for the position of Junior Professional Officer (JPO) in Sustainability and Partnerships. This role, stationed in London, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the global coffee sector, focusing particularly on African coffee-producing countries.

About the International Coffee Organization

The ICO, established in 1963 under the United Nations, is the premier intergovernmental organization for coffee, representing 94% of world coffee production and 64% of consumption. The organization’s mission is to strengthen the global coffee sector, promoting sustainable expansion for the benefit of all stakeholders. By facilitating dialogue among governments, the private sector, and civil society, the ICO tackles sector challenges through international cooperation and nurtures opportunities for sustainable development.

Role and Responsibilities

The JPO will operate within the ICO’s Operations Division, specifically under the Sustainability and Partnerships function. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting field and desk research on the sustainability of agri-businesses and the coffee global value chain (C-GVC), focusing on social sustainability and the living income of coffee farmers.
  2. Monitoring and evaluating ICO partnerships with international organizations, academia, NGOs, and the private sector.
  3. Coordinating the Coffee Public-Private Task Force (CPPTF) and assisting in the organization of its meetings and technical workstreams.
  4. Preparing technical and financial reports related to ICO and CPPTF operations.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a university degree in social, agricultural, economic, or environmental sciences, with at least two years of relevant professional experience. Proficiency in English is essential, and knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, or French is an asset. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of ESG practices and experience in public-private partnerships.

Training and Development

The ICO provides a comprehensive training program, tailored to the candidate’s needs and interests. The JPO will gain in-depth knowledge of the ICO’s mandate, operations, and the broader coffee sector, enhancing their skills in sustainability, partnerships, economics, and development projects.
