ICO Hosts Successful 24th Plenary Meeting of ISO/TC 34/SC 15 Coffee Working Group
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) concluded hosting the 24th Plenary Meeting of the ISO/TC 34/SC 15 Coffee Working Group, which took place from October 28 to November 1, 2024, at its headquarters in London. This annual event brought together coffee industry experts and representatives from 15 countries, including Colombia, Costa Rica, and ICONTEC Secretariat delegates, with others joining virtually. The discussions focused on establishing and refining international coffee standards critical to the industry.
As an active member of this technical group, the ICO is dedicated to the ongoing effort of standardizing practices across the coffee value chain, from green coffee processing to final consumption. Topics addressed at the meeting included terminology, sampling and test methods, product specifications, and guidelines for packaging, storage, and transportation to ensure that coffee quality is preserved at every stage.
The outcomes of the 24th Plenary Meeting will play a key role in shaping future international standards for coffee. These standards are expected to support quality, safety, and sustainability initiatives worldwide, benefiting producers, exporters, and consumers alike.
