Vietnam Signs the International Coffee Agreement 2022, Reaffirming Commitment to Global Coffee Sector Cooperation

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam has officially signed the International Coffee Agreement 2022, marking a significant step in strengthening its role in the global coffee community. His Excellency Do Minh Hung, Ambassador of Vietnam to the United Kingdom, signed the Agreement today on behalf of the Vietnamese Government at the headquarters of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) in London.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of ICO Member States and the ICO Secretariat. In his remarks, Ambassador Hung underlined Vietnam’s strong commitment to multilateral cooperation in the coffee sector and emphasized the strategic importance of coffee to his country, which ranks as the second-largest coffee producer in the world.

“Vietnam recognizes the vital economic and social role that coffee plays in our national development,” said Ambassador Hung. “By signing the International Coffee Agreement 2022, we affirm our willingness to work closely with all ICO Members to promote sustainability, equity, and resilience across the global coffee value chain.”

Vietnam’s accession to the ICA 2022 reinforces its position as a key player in global coffee dialogues—ranging from sustainable development and farmer livelihoods to value addition in producing countries.

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) warmly welcomes Vietnam’s formal adherence to the ICA 2022 and looks forward to deepening collaboration with the Vietnamese government and its dynamic coffee sector. Vietnam’s active participation will be essential to advancing the objectives of the Agreement, which include promoting a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous global coffee industry.

The International Coffee Agreement 2022 represents a modernized framework for international cooperation, focusing on sustainability, market transparency, innovation, and value creation throughout the coffee supply chain—from crop to cup.
